Introduction

Welcome to the Sekiro Shadows Die Twice Trophy Guide! The platinum for this game wants you to get 100% completion: see all endings, beat all optional bosses, and find all upgrade items in the game. It’s an open world and you can fast travel between areas at any time. Search all areas carefully for there are many upgrade items to be found. If you get stuck with a boss or don’t know where to go, refer to the full Walkthrough. If you missed out on anything you can do it in New Game+. After beating the game for the first time it will transfer your collectibles, unlocked skills, upgrades etc. over to the next playthrough.

Roadmap by SnowNinjaRaccoon & Trophy Guide by PowerPyx

Step 1: Play the game how you like until you reach “Corrupted Monk” and “Guardian Ape”

In your first playthrough you can’t do anything wrong until you reach the Corrupted Monk main boss in Ashina Depths and Guardian Ape main boss in Sunken Valley (both unmissable). After killing both of these, some of the minibosses in Ashina Castle become unavailable. You need these minibosses to get their Prayer Beads – the items that upgrade your vitality and posture. The Prosthetic Tool “Loaded Spear” also becomes unreachable a little later so be sure to grab these now if you haven’t already.

When you reach Corrupted Monk / Guardian Ape look through the collectible guides and find anything you haven’t already:

  • Boss Locations
  • Prayer Bead Locations
  • Gourd Seed Locations
  • Prosthetic Tool Locations
  • Combat Style Locations

AFTER defeating both the Corrupted Monk & Guardian Ape you must return to Ashina Castle (2nd visit to this region, when the idols there get locked) and will meet Owl on the Tower Roof. At this point you are presented with 2 dialogue choices that decide the game ending and can make a lot of things missable.

Make sure you pick the 2nd dialogue choice (the bottom one) to stay loyal to Kuro. It says: “Break the Iron Code. Stay Loyal to Kuro”. At this point you should take care of all the steps needed for “Purification” and “Return” ending. When you’ve reached this point, check out the Sekiro Endings Guide for exact information on how to do each ending.

Step 2: Defeat the Endboss Sword Saint Isshin but do not interact with Kuro yet

Once you have received the items “Everblossom” and “Frozen Dragon’s Tears” for both the endings keep playing until you have defeated the last boss “Sword Saint Isshin”. Now is the time for securing your savefile.

PS4 Savefile Backup:
Go to PS4 Settings > Application Saved Data Management > Copy to USB or PS+ Cloud (if you use PS+ Cloud make sure you disable auto-uploads for Sekiro or else it will overwrite your backup save automatically). If you like to keep multiple backups from different points in the game, you can copy the PS4 folder from USB flash drive to a computer, this way you can have unlimited save game backups.

Xbox One Savefile Backup: Exit the Game (exiting the game overwrites cloud save!) > as soon as achievement pops, press Home-Button > scroll down to Sekiro Shadows Die Twice > press Options > Manage Game > Saved Data > click Gamertag > Delete Saved Data > Delete from Console > if it still shows the save, delete it again until it’s gone > press Home-Button and restart the game > it will now sync / download your save from cloud! If in doubt about any step please test it on a secondary dummy account first where you don’t risk losing any progress.

Once you backed up the save game, interact with Kuro and choose each of the 3 options available once for each of the 3 endings in this playthough. After each ending you will need to restore the backup save (copy it from USB / PS+ back to PS4). Once you got your 3rd ending do not head into NG+ just yet. After the game you’re asked if you want to head into New Game+ right away, choose “No” to continue free-roam after the story. You can start NG+ at any time from the idol at Dilapidated Temple.

Make sure you got all the mini-bosses defeated and 6 Lapis Lazuli collected before you go into NG+. See Sekiro Boss Locations Guide & Sekiro Lapis Lazuli Locations Guide.

After you’ve confirmed that you got all bosses and Lapis Lazuli, pray at the idol of Dilapidated Temple to start NG+. The reason we must head into NG+ is because we can’t kill all bosses in one playthrough, we still have to get the Shura Ending to fight two different endbosses.

Step 3: New Game+ (until reaching Owl in Ashina Castle)

Play through New Game+ until you reach Owl in Ashina Castle, at the end of the game. This is the time for your second save upload! Secure your save as you did before. This time stay loyal to Owl by picking the 1st dialogue option (top one): “Obey the Iron Code, Forsake Kuro”. Now you get 2 new endbosses and the Shura ending BUT once you have received the Shura Ending Trophy and Man Without Equal Trophy (All Bosses), reload your save before Owl again.

Step 4: After reloading your Savefile

You want to reload your savefile before the Owl, since you want to fight him again. You need to do this, since you need 4 more Lapis Lazuli from NG+ and you can’t get them if you chose the Shura Ending (Shura Ending means no Fountainhead Palace visit). Go to Fountainhead and grab the easier 4 Lapis Lazuli (ignore Demon of Hatred this time) for your final upgrades. See Sekiro Lapis Lazuli Locations Guide.

Step 5: Cleanup

At this point you are maybe missing a few easy trophies and probably the Skills. So grind until you can buy all the remaining skills and the Platinum will be yours.

Man Without Equal

Ashina Traveler
Traveled to all areas of the game
*Missable if you choose Shura Ending*

There are the following areas in the game:

  • Ashina Reservoir
  • Ashina Outskirts
  • Hirata Estate
  • Ashina Castle
  • Abandoned Dungeon
  • Senpou Temple, Mt. Kongo
  • Ashina Depths
  • Sunken Valley
  • Fountainhead Palace (missable)

You just need to have visited each of them once for this trophy. You do not need to find all idols (fast travel points) in them, just the general main area needs to be visited. The last area “Fountainhead Palace” is missable. After defeating the Corrupted Monk Boss in Ashina Depths & the Guardian Boss in Sunken Valley, you must return to the Tower Roof of Ashina Castle, where the Genichiro Ashina boss fight took place. This is the normal story path so far and unmissable. Once you’re there, you must speak to Owl on the Tower Roof and there are 2 dialogue options that determine the game ending. The 1st option would have you betray Kuro and thus would end the game right then and there (an early ending). You’d never even reach Fountainhead Palace and miss out on this.

Instead, when talking to Owl pick the 2nd Dialogue Option: “Break the Iron Code, Stay Loyal to Kuro”. Then you will automatically reach the final area Fountainhead Palace as part of the remaining story. In other words: if you go for this ending you’ll get this trophy automatically in the process.

If you need help at any point or are unsure where to go, click the linked area names above for detailed walkthroughs of each area and how to get there.

Master of the Arts
Grasped the inner mysteries of any combat style
For this trophy you must buy the last skill in any skill branch. The easiest way is to do this in the Ashina Arts skillset. It only has 6 skills that are needed for this. You don’t have to buy all skills, only the ones that lead up to the last skill on the right side of the skillset. You can farm XP by killing the same enemies over and over again. The further you get into the game the more XP you will earn per enemy.

Tip: You can manually back up your save game on a USB device or PS+ Cloud then copy it back to have your skill points back. First farm enough skill points. Then go to PS4 Settings > Application Saved Data Management to back up the save. Buy the skills to pop the trophy, exit game and copy back your previous save. Then you have the skill points back. With this you can also test what skills and combat arts you like the most. You’ll need all skills for the trophy “Height of Technique” anyway so this trophy will come along the way.

Lazuline Upgrade
Used Lapis Lazuli to upgrade any tool to its limit
» Sekiro Shadows Die Twice All Lapis Lazuli Locations
Revered Blade
Received the “Kusabimaru” from Kuro
Automatic story-related trophy, cannot be missed. This will be the very first trophy you earn. It unlocks during the prologue when you get your first weapon.
Shinobi Prosthetic
Acquired the Shinobi Prosthetic
Automatic story-related trophy, cannot be missed. This will be the second trophy you earn. It unlocks after the prologue.
Memorial Mob
Encountered the Memorial Mob

This can be done right after the prologue when you reach the region Ashina Outskirts. After the idol figure checkpoint called “Outskirts Wall – Gate Path”, get past the samurai miniboss “General Naomori Kawarada”. Then follow the path down the left. There’s a big mountain on the left side of the area. With your grapple tool you can jump from tree branch to tree branch until you reach the top. On top of that mountain is a tent with a merchant inside. This is quite hidden as you’d never have reason to go there normally. It’s just before a guy shoots at you with a cannon from a wall.

Resurrection
Returned from the dead using “Resurrection” for the first time
After dying you can press :r1: to resurrect, which unlocks this trophy. This ability is unlocked after the prologue. It instantly revives you at the spot of death. You can recharge your resurrections by visiting a checkpoint or killing enemies.

Still got to figure out most of the bosses and endings. This is work-in-progress, I’ll update as I go and find out new info.
This game takes a while and I didn’t get it early enough to finish in time for release. Will take a few days to finish it. Will be all done next week.

So this may be obvious to most but i had already killed several sub bosses before i realized it.If you kill all the enemies around a sub boss (I used geneeral tenzen but it shouldnt matter) and then use the shrine but dont rest it autosaves you can then upload this to the cloud and if you die you can just redownload the save from the cloud.Might save players some time and headaches maybe you could include this in your guide.I know im not the only one who gets tired of re farmiing enemies to fight boss again.I wonder if they did this on purpose because they knew ppl would do this?I mean you cant do this in Darksouls.

Hey I think you should change the estimated trophy difficulty as “Git Gud”

    • Anthony says

      March 27, 2019 at 10:02 am

Just so you know there’s a way you can use skill points to upgrade your weapons attack power infinite. You get all 3 pieces of the dragon mask 2 from bottle guy vendor in hirata estate and the merchant at abandoned dungeon entrance. Will probably make bosses alot easier especially those like demon of hatred thought i’d mention that

    • PowerPyx says

      March 27, 2019 at 11:19 pm

I know (and I have a guide on all mask pieces already) but the trouble is you must farm those skill points extra then to get the all skills trophy. And they get super expensive in the end. Upgrading attack power, while helpful, also means a longer grind later. It’s not completely necessary, NG+ is actually easier than the first run due to having all upgrades and knowing the bosses already.

How is this a 7/10 difficulty? The isshina fight with 3 phases and 4 fights is harder than anything i’ve ever done. I can take gael and kos solo easy i can’t beat that guy at all, let alone come close to beating him.

    • PowerPyx says

It’s not that bad compared to something like Ninja Gaiden.

I was just wondering id killing all of the headless enemies is essential for the all bosses trophy? As there are many of them and if it doesnt count towards the trophy i dont feel the need to kill them all.

Great! Your instructions on saving the game on ps+ is not clear! I overwritten my whole progress!!!! I thought the instruction was supposed to save the game to the cloud, turns out it was supposed to overwrite it! That was 100+hrs of gameplay and 2 newgame+ wasted!!!

    • PowerPyx says

      May 13, 2020 at 3:35 pm

How would you improve the instructions? I think they are clear and PSN gives you a warning that it will overwrite backed-up saves.

I also don’t know how you’d lose 100 hours of progress, unless you overwrite a backed up save with a fresh save that has literally 0 hours of gameplay on it. If you want to provide more context to what happened in your case I can let you know what the best options are.
Overwriting an older save with a newer one that has more progress doesn’t lose you anything (it just replaces previous progress with new progress). If you’re unsure of anything to do with save games ALWAYS test it on a secondary account first, if you’ve never done save game backups/save game restores before. You could also back it up on a USB device instead which the guide mentions too. I’ve been using save game backups/restoration since PS4 released on literally every big game I played and never lost any progress whatsoever. I’ve also had the same save/restore instructions in my guides since PS4’s release and never had anyone have an issue with it in the 7 years since then. I always want to have the best guide and make everything as clear as possible so please let me know what wording caused you confusion and how I can improve it 🙂

There is free roam. I haven’t beaten the story yet, if there still is free roam AFTER the story I can’t 100% confirm yet. Will follow up on that. As long as you have a save before the end that’ll do.

I confirm there is a free roam. After defeating final boss the game asks you if start 2nd playtrough or start it later. You can either start new game+ immediately or go free roam

Difficulty depends on how fast you adapt to the game

Same as dark souls in the beginning you die a lot but then you get used to it

    • Real_Outsider says

      March 23, 2019 at 7:06 am

      Harder than DS2

    • C1 says

      October 17, 2019 at 7:28 am

Well, that doesn’t tell him alot due to DS2 being the easiest fromsoft game.

If Sekiro is your first fromsoft game it will probably be brutal. If you have experience with soulsborne and/or Nioh you might struggle in the beginning but adapt fairly quickly.

My guess is that the endings may be tied to whether npcs die of dragonrot that seems like a thing from software would do.After all if i remember right didnt dark souls 3 have endings tied to npcs?

i think the Game need 3-4 Playthroughs to become the Platin Trophy. You can Unlock the Endings by Using the PS4 Backup or Cloud can be done but with every reset when you load the Save from the Backup or Cloud, the Progress of the Bosses and Areas are gone. The only Way to Save this Progress ist by playing NewGamePlus.

I think that’s the way it is

    • PowerPyx says

I think so too. And there are supposedly new endbosses in NG+ and NG++ and they supposedly drop new skills.
So the THEORY (unconfirmed) is that you must also beat NG+ and NG++ to get All Skills trophy & All Bosses trophy (the new ones in NG+ & the boss from each different ending as they all have different bosses too). I’m still a long way away from this though.
So like you said, Endings through USB works but you lose the progress on the unique boss tied to each ending when restoring backup.

This will probably be much harder to complete on Xbox One as it’s not possible to backup saves to a USB stick on Xbox One.

    Hey PP,

At what points do we need to make separate saves for the all 4 endings trophy?

I literally just beat Genichiro and took a break (but i still have my save online from just before the fight with him).

I thought you said we don’t need to make separate saves until after we beat the corrupted monk & guardian ape (one save for each?)

but someone on r/Sekiro said that there’s apoint of no return after you kill Genichiro, something about a praying monk despawns after you kill Genichiro making somethnig to do with “infested” impossible to achieve.

I wish I could elaborate better but that’s all I know, whether he’s talking nonsense or not who knows.

I just want to know if I have to reload my before Genichiro save and go do something first, or if I’m safe to continue on after killing Genichiro.

    Thanks!

I’m still confirming stuff and what exactly is missable.
If you can, keep multiple backups to be safe. Copy them to a USB stick, then connect it to a computer and copy the PS4 Folder to your computer. This way you can add more backup saves to your USB and copy each to your computer, then copy them back to USB as needed.
I think having a backup before killing the Corrupted Monk + Guardian Ape & one after killing these two will be the best option until we know more on missables.

Confronting the memories gives you attack power and are not meant to be saved. You’ll need the extra attack power so go ahead and use those. They aren’t tied to any trophy on the list.

They are both main bosses that you are going to kill in one normal playthrough, no way around this. It’s unmissable, you must kill both in the same playthrough for story purposes anyway.

How did some people manage to get “Peak Physical Strength” early in the game, before even unlocking “Ashina Traveler”? is there a glitch in the game? I’ve beaten every mini boss that I found in the game and searched everywhere and couldn’t find the rest of the Prayer Beads.. well, I was missing 4 actually and found two thanks to you but there’s still two and I found out that I need to go for a specific ending to get them.. thanks to you as well

Though, some people managed to get them all somehow early in the game, make you feel like a complete idiot!

Dragonrot does not affect trophies or endings, it only reduces your Unseen Aid chance (less chance to keep XP & money after death).

Yes a USB flash drive works just fine, no need for a hard drive. You can even copy the PS4 Folder from USB to a PC, thus can keep multiple backups (then copy back from PC to USB to PS4 to restore). This way you could have multiple different backups with just 1 USB flash drive. Not really needed, but good we have this possibility, can’t hurt to keep multiple backups in a game like this.

No, Shura Ending makes you miss most trophies (these are pointed out in the trophy guide in red). Shura is basically the “short form ending” that ends everything early and you’d never reach the last story area (to which lots of other trophies are tied to).
You need to go for the other 3 endings first as described in Roadmap.

Do you have One Mind (Isshin) and Dragon Flash (Sword Saint) on the same save file? I am currently missing the Height of Technique (all skills acquired trophy), I have to clear the Mushin skill tree but I’m not sure if I’ll have to do another playthrough (NG++), since after getting the all bosses trophy I reloaded the save file before Owl to go to Fountainhead and get the lapis lazuli for the Master of the Prosthetic trophy (all prosthetic upgrades), but now I’m stuck in NG+ without the One Mind skill.

  33. rmoxon says

    March 29, 2019 at 12:58 pm

It will take 99% of people way longer than 50 hours to platinum this game even if they backup save files, so I don’t think that figure is accurate.

    Reply
    • PowerPyx says

      March 29, 2019 at 5:37 pm

You can blaze through NG+ super quick since you already have all upgrades and know how the bosses work and can skip Fountainhead Palace with Shura Ending.
Games like this are highly skill dependent of course (and depend on how familiar the player is with previous FromSoftware games), but 50 hours is a good average.

Did you check if One Mind (Isshin) and Dragon Flash (Sword Saint) are required for the Height of Technique (all skills acquired) trophy? If that’s the case, you should state that in the trophy guide, because in order to minimize the runs (only NG and NG+ required) you should:

    – do everything in NG, using save data backup/reload to get the Immortal Severance-Purification-Return endings + Dragon Flash;
    – start NG+ and play till Owl;
    – backup your save data;
    – defeat Owl, unlock Fountainhead and get the Master of the Prosthetic trophy;
    – reload your save data;
    – get the Shura Ending + One Mind;
    – cleanup, farming XP for the Height of Technique trophy.

I followed your guide and I am currently missing the 3 final skills (Mushin skill tree) and the Height of Technique trophy, but I’m pretty sure I won’t be able to get the platinum since I will be missing the One Mind (since I got the Shura ending before reloading the save, as you suggested). Can you confirm this? If I have to start a NG++ I’ll rather do it sooner than later, farming the last skill points is a real pain in NG+.

    • Matt says

(*I’d rather do it sooner than later :D)

Just wanted to point out the major point here: your guide for a 2-run platinum 100% works only assuming you have all the other skills BEFORE going for the Shura ending in NG+ (thus getting both the all bosses AND the all skills trophies after beating Isshin), which I think wouldn’t be the case for most people, since getting skill points gets harder and harder due to the progression system, and you don’t get there naturally, even with a NG+, you have to farm XP sooner or later. Anyway, thanks for your help, massive work as always!

    • PowerPyx says

      March 30, 2019 at 9:13 pm

You can continue to free-roam after beating the boss (after you got his skill / Shura Ending). So no need to get all other skills before him. Can farm the rest afterward.

    • Matt says

      March 30, 2019 at 10:38 pm

I actually got the trophy (and the platinum) without One Mind, so I think only the purchasable skills are needed for Height of the Technique, not the special ones (definitely not One Mind). Anyway, I know you can farm the rest after Shura, but my point was that if after going for Shura you reloaded your save to unlock Fountainhead and the last 4 lapis lazuli you couldn’t also farm for the remaining skills, because you would be missing the One Mind skill. But I did it that way, and as it turns out, that skill is not needed for the trophy.

I was going for the purification ending and after killing the Owl in the Hirada Estate, the trophy didn’t pop for me. Since I didn’t have a backup I kept playing and finished the game with the desired ending, but still no Father Surpassed trophy. Only when I restarted the game and loaded the save it popped. So not sure why it happened, but it might be potentially glitched under certain conditions.

You need NG+ for the “All Bosses” trophy because per run you must pick between Shura Ending Bosses (Emma + Isshin) or the other 3 Ending bosses (those 3 endings can all be done in same run). Plus the remaining 4 Lapis Lazuli (Prosthetic Upgrades) because you can only get 6/10 in first playthrough.
Each time you copy back your save it deletes any progress / bosses you did since then so you must beat them again on your main save.

Pick first option, reload 2nd option, reload 3rd option… what stops someone from at owl backing up, picking the first option to get that one ending.. then reloading to choose the 2nd option and then doing all the steps for the last 3 endings and backing up again when giving the items? You first get the Lapis Lazuli BEFORE NG+ (if you don’t have it already). AFTER you got that you start NG+.
Then play through NG+ to get the remaining endings which have different bosses (for all bosses trophy).

PowerPyx & DK, thank you both for all your hard work & effort put into this incredible guide.
I’ve been searching your guide & comments for some info & haven’t found anything so I’ll ask here.
Does it matter which ending you go into NG+ with? I see that you saved the Shura ending for NG+ as you note it’s the quickest ending so that makes sense to do that one in NG+.
Is there an ending that will net the highest number of mini/reg Bosses during NG?
I ask because I believe you also mention that you need the Shura ending to get some other bosses otherwise not available. So is the Shura ending the only ending with different bosses (making the other 3 endings net the same available bosses in that playthrough)?
Any clarification on this is greatly appreciated. If you did answer this in your guide already & I missed it, I apologize. Thank you guys for your help.

Can i get them in ng+ combined with shura ending? Probably not so i need 2 more playthroughs because of this. Jesus

I’m on NG+++, going for the last ending yet I need like 15 more levels to get all skill… this is painful.

So it seem like the most efficient method for achieving all 4 endings with scumsaves would be to:
1.) save before Owl fight, and side with owl.
2.) load backup, side with Kuro up until after Isshin, the Sword Saint, then scumsave again.
3.) go through each of the three endings, but do Purification ending last, because there are two Beads only available in that ending that you will want to carry over into ng+.

Please correct me if I’m wrong.

Between your step 1 & 2 you also need to do the steps for the purification & return endings (by the time you get to Isshin the Sword Saint the needed steps can no longer be done).
While doing a backup before Owl (your step 1) is highly recommended, you’ll still have to redo Shura Ending in NG+ for “All bosses” trophy anyway. (if you do the ending, then copy back save from USB it will put you back before Owl and forget that you did that ending).

Nope, only “major” bosses counts (the ones that upgrade your strenght)

of all shaman and headless you only need the shaman with the upgrade ring once and the shaman for lapislazzuli twice

      hope it helps 🙂

Hello PowerPyx, I just wanted to know to get the Man With Equal trophy, in NG+ do I have to kill all of the mini bosses and main bosses again. Thanks, I just hope its not a stupid question.

Can I do the shura ending first since it’s shorter/easier one, reload a backup right before I answered the question to Owl and then do the other 3? Or will this somehow bug some trophy?

    Thanks!

Yes you can do that to get all 4 ending trophies in 1 run. However, because you copy back the save after Shura it will “forget” that you killed the Shura exclusive endbosses. So in order to get the trophy for all bosses you must redo the Shura Ending in New Game Plus. There’s no way around doing a 2nd playthrough with Shura ending if you want the platinum.

Guys, I’ve done a save USB backup before the Owl decision and went for the Shura Ending just to check it out and get the trophies( not planning a platinum), but now I’m trying to restore and seems like it’s corrupted. Is it possible to get a save file from anyone else? I don’t want to start it all over again 🙁

Save Games are account-bound. Hence, even if you had someone else’s, it wouldn’t be compatible with your account/console. You’ll have to do another run.

What about swapping steps 3+4? Save the game, fight Owl to move on to get 4 Lapis Lazuli, get the trophy for upgrades. Then restore for Shura ending. At which point you move on to NG+2 to farm step 5 for skill points.
What you’re losing is having to re-farm the amount of XP you’d get between Owl and the 4 Lapis Lazuli. But what you’re gaining is an XP buff on NG+2, and the ability to use One Mind while doing that farming. How does the math work out there?

Difficulty 7/10 is way too low. I know that it’s hard to make consistent rating for variety of guide, but at least compare it to Bloodborne, which is 7/10 and it’s much easier. Just the number of playthroughs required and amount of minibosses makes it harder, not mentioning that even Sekiro minibosses tend to be harder than big part of Bloodborne bosses.

I would argue it’s easier than Bloodborne, not harder. The fact you have infinite stamina alone drops the difficulty compared to Bloodborne/Souls.

I have zero experience with backing up saves so I’m a little confused. At the end of Step 1 the guide talks about doing the “Purification” and “Return” endings. No save backup is mentioned until Step 2. Does this sound right?

    1. Choose the 2nd dialogue choice to stay loyal to Kuro.
    2. Finish steps 1-9 from the Purification ending.
    3. Now we move on to the steps from the Return ending in which we want to finish steps 1-17.
    4. This is where we backup the save to USB
    5. Now we can go ahead and do the 3 endings: Purification, Immortal Severance and Return endings by finishing one ending and reloading the save for the others

Does that sound right? Essentially we are doing all steps from the Purification and Return endings except the final step which is defeating the final boss.
